The powers of macros... the power of QuicKeys _ Page 3 of 4 (go back)

The silent partner is
"Watch Me Record a sequence"
When you get QuicKeys, read as much of the manual as you can concerning these features. There's a lot of hidden power and value there.

A simple example is one QuicKey that I use quite often. Option/shift/D puts the date and time anywhere. Any program, any where the cursor is. BAM. it's there - even disk or folder names! (Open this window to see the QuicKeys Layout Window)
... Another, more complicated QuicKey is one that filters and transcribes TEXT snatched from an Adobe PDF file and pastes it into my BBEdit Text editor. This example (illustrated) shows the actual steps in activating Acrobat, selecting the type, turn the page, activating the BBEdit file, move to the end, paste the text, insert two returns and click back to the Acrobat file. All in a single keystroke.
... Another one finds a certain anchor character in a TEXT file, selects the line, copies it, then selects Quark, Finds the next occurrence of another special character, pastes the line of type, applies several specific attributes to the line of text, removes the special anchor character, then returns to BBEdit for the next occurrence of the character. 16 different actions compiled into a single keystroke -- faster than you could perform the first step.
As I mentioned before I've done files like catalogs this way with thousands of lines of text, and very complicated formatting rules. DTP formatting that would normally take
hours of traditional Quark formatting is all done while I get up, walk to the front office, and have coffee. When I get back, the file is ready. Sweet.

Let's walk through one powerful BBEdit QuicKey routine...
