Nicoz Balboa: Magical Mystery Wood

20 Years of Designing Women

Italian bad-girl Nicoz Balboa designs images somewhere between hate art, tattoos and pen-n-ink rendering. Keep up with her craziness on Facebook http://on.fb.me/13Dhocj and don't miss her "Moleskine" blog. In 2010, the La Fabrica Fluxus art gallery presented "Magical Mystery Wood", the mysterious world of magic Nicoz Balboa. Wow -- here's the video:

NEXT : Anita Wasik, Luci Gutiérrez and UN Women

Anita Wasik : Divine Vision

20 Years of Designing Women

Polish graphic designer Anita Wasik is on the edge. She's an assistant at the Laboratory of Professor of Graphic Design. Janusz Górski. Working every day in the studio, graphic workshop deals with publishing graphics and visual communication. Like so many of her European contemporaries, her greatest love is the poster.
Designing to the readers' eye and with a visual twist viewers find many meanings hidden in her work! Her blog, unfortunately on blogspot, has a wealth of creative inspiration. You'll also see a fun slideshow of her works at Grafika u ytkowa

Luci Gutiérrez

20 Years of Designing Women

Spanish graphic designer Luci Gutiérrez is a lot of fun with some truely sparkling illustration and design work. But look closer ... where there's typography it's bright and playful; where there's illustration, it's impulsive and fresh. We really liked the tour of her works. Not to be missed!

UN Women ad series reveals widespread sexism

20 Years of Designing Women

While this was in 2013, we're just now discovering it. A series of ads, developed as a creative idea for UN Women by Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai, uses genuine Google searches to reveal the widespread prevalence of sexism and discrimination against women. Based on searches dated 9 March, 2013 the ads expose negative sentiments ranging from stereotyping as well as outright denial of women’s rights.

NEXT : How the Media Failed Women and Hallie McGee

Hallie McGee ~ Designer + Creative

20 Years of Designing Women

Hallie hails from Seattle, Washington, and is a professional Graphic Designer, currently freelancing. We liked her clean work and insightful design process. She writes :
At base level I just love to create. Choosing to make my own toys rather than buy them, since I was little playing in my room making magazines and my own playing cards. Seeing a blank page, or empty canvas and then seeing what you've been able to make from sheer creativity is about the most satisfying thing I've experienced. Always testing out new forms of media and finding what works for me and what I'm strong in keeps me busy.
Unfortunately, you cannot connect with Hallie because she's on LinkedIN, and her profile is not set to public. If you want to try searching, then log into your LinkedIN account. http://www.linkedin.com/in/halliemcgee

The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any."

A tribute to Designing Women is this video depicting just a few of the ways our modern media exploits, abuses and misrepresents women.
Using film as a catalyst for cultural transformation, The Representation Project inspires individuals and communities to challenge and overcome limiting gender stereotypes so that everyone, regardless of gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation or circumstance can fulfill their potential.
