Photoshop Seminar -- Burning a Hole - with Joe Kling Burning Down the House
(or at least
burning a hole in it)

Joe Kling
Like many kids, when I was younger I had a fascination with fire. I loved to light things up and watch em burn. Nothing major, like my house or anything, so don't start with the Psychoanalysis. But I recently came across a technique which can be done in Photoshop which creates the illusion of a burned hole. It can be applied to just about any texture or surface you desire.
. . . In this tutorial we will learn how to create the effect of a piece of fabric with a hole burned in it. If we have enough pyromaniacs out there, maybe we can do a follow-up lesson on how to make the flames that burned the hole. The effect appears most evident on lighter background surfaces but feel free to experiment. This is really quick and simple.
