Putting a face on the pig...

I started with two pieces of art. A pig and a face. These can come from anywhere but be sure that you're not using other people's art without their permission. I used an illustration of a pig which a friend gave me, 1base.JPG, and a cropped face image, 2face.JPG, from a royalty-free CD ROM package. Here's the procedure:

Start with 1base.JPG. Convert it to a PSD, Photoshop document and copy the background layer. Turn off the eyeball icon of the original background layer and make the copy layer active. (If you mess up along the way, you can always go back to your original hidden background layer.)

Use the Rubber Stamp Tool
to clone out the existing face of the pig. You now have a clean area to place the new face.

Select the Line Tool
and set a line width of zero. You can now use it as a distance ruler. While watching the (D)istance readout in the Info Palette, measure the distance, top to bottom, of the pig face area you want to fill.
