It's a jungle out there...
You know you've heard me rant on and on about about the tutorial stalker, hijacker, replicator, spamvertising sites, and I always try to avoid sending you there. I rest assured you know to turn off your cookies, flush your history and clear out your cache before dipping in, right? Well, amazingly enough, at least some of them are coming to the realization that YOU, as the consuming Photoshop public, are looking for CONTENT, not something else to buy. This next example is one such case where there is some redeemable content, so we pass it along to you...
23 Awesome Examples of Design as a Force For Good
We thank Danny Outlaw for posting this interesting set of images, hosted in the "PSDTUTS" web site. (No, PSDTUTS didn't originate the content!) Danny writes:
While design is too often used as a means to persuade us to buy, buy and buy some more, it is less often but more importantly used as a means to communicate positive messages and encourage action. Here we showcase 23 examples where graphic design has been used not to sell us products we don't need, but instead, to fight poverty.
We fully agree, so here's a FREE link to Design as a Force For Good
Christmas Accent Photoshop Brushes
We really don't know much about Scully7491. You know it's often difficult to dig to the true artist of online resources in sites like Deviantart because everyone links to everyone else and adds so little documentation you have no idea who did it. But this artist from Texas uses Photoshop, Illustrator and Apophysis to create some interesting visuals. Notably Scully offers a collection of Christmas brushes you may want to check out.

While you're there, check out this collection of 17 Floral Swirls Brushes by Brenda Rivera (link; Download) Brenda has 77 other collecitons that are pretty wonderful, including pictorials and dingbats in brush form.

WHO IS GO MEDIA?
Go Media is a progressive art and design studio based in Cleveland, Ohio that offers you an unbelievable wealth of visual stimulation and creative jump-starts! Log into their "arsenal" and while it's a bit off-color in places, there are some pretty enticing items there. We loved some of the wonderful T-Shirt art! While just about everything is for sale at the site, ideas abound, and their "user gallery" is ranks our seal of "DO NOT MISS" ... also see their flickr group

Graphic design pool
While surfing GoMedia, we ran across the Graphic Design Pool on Flicker -- we showed you this in its early days, but man-oh-man we haven't been back in a while and it too is totally loaded with very cool stuff!

Photoshop Tutorial: Create a Custom Mac OSX Style Ring Binder
This one came to us via the "Photoshop Lady" yet another Photoshop clearing house and scalp links site just recently opened. (One of just 10,000 new sites claiming to be the "all the best" Photoshop site! Sheesh!) But anyway, punk-rocker Martin Snajdr, from Czech Republic is into retro art, illustration, design, typography. He shares this tutorial on how to modify and personalize the address book icon from the Apple OS. It's pretty nice, we thought. (Final Image) This is an extensive tutorial, and teaches a lot of skills and techniques. It's a fairly complicated piece of art!

Free stuff at Smashing Magazine
Although this site seems to concentrate on WordPress themes and Icon sets, there are a few gems to be found here. We discovered them while looking for themes, but the freebies page introduced us to at least two cool downloads:

Photoshop Tutorial: Adding Light Streaks To A Photo
Steve Patterson shares this Adobe Photoshop tutorial and shows you how to add colorful streaks of light to a photo.
You've probably seen these light streaks used in ads for everything from shampoo to cellphones, and in fact they were used most recently in a cool ad for a new cellphone from Sprint and Samsung. Creating them is as easy as drawing a path with Photoshop's Pen Tool and then stroking the path with a brush, with a couple of simple layer styles used to add the actual color and light effect. It's all fairly easy
