| Joyce Evans tests Media Lab's new PhotoWebber... continued from previous page Checking for Errors PhotoWebber can also perform intense cross-platform and browser checking with preview options. Just choose the target browser, and if there is a conflict the Back Seat Driver alerts you and offers a solution. And it doesn't just stop working or delete the step. It actually stops, tells you the problem and lets you decide on the solution. It even tells you if there is a problem with one of the compatible OS platforms, for example, a PNG file requires a Quick Time plugin for the Macintosh. Figure 3: PhotoWebber displays helpful warnings Text PhotoWebber gives you the option of outputting text as an image or as text layers. You can even add hyperlinks and select between Serif, Sans Serif, or Mono fonts. (Specific font support and possibly downloadable fonts are on the version 2.0 feature list.) I found the text feature great primarily for footers or text that was one line. But there is no text wrap around feature and if you use the enter key to force breaks the results are unpredictable. When I tried adding a very short paragraph next to an image, the image was broken up because the text changed the table layout. The best way I found to handle text in this version of PhotoWebber was to add placeholders and then do the formatting in your HTML editor. I opened the HTML PhotoWebber generated into Dreamweaver without a hitch. __ Placeholders are quite easy to add. And they are coded into the generated HTML document, so when you go to your editor there is a place for formatting text or adding any other elements. Flexibility Inevitably there are last minute changes to a Web design. With PhotoWebber you can make last minute changes easily by clicking on radio buttons to switch from tables to Style Sheets and vice versa. Or you can change the background to any color or tiled graphic without starting over. __ Frames are also very flexible. Any element can be moved to any frame at any time, and most elements can even cross a frame's boundaries. Simply tell PhotoWebber where to insert the frames. Frames can be added and moved easily by inserting a frame divider and dragging it to the desired location. __ Plus, the file management features allow you to create folders, move files, and resolve any conflicts.
