- Photoshop Tutorials: Healing brush/Patch tool
Supposedly the healing tool has replaced the Clone Stamp Tool. The healing tool is described as being able to better match "the texture, lighting, and shading of the sampled pixels to the source pixels." After reading this tutorial, I am so excited about learning how to retouch photographs. I was amazed to see how easy it was to "brush" away lines and wrinkles that so often make someone look older. I especially liked how this tool could take away dark bags that appear under peoples' eyes. - Photoshop Customizing Brushes
I feel this is a very helpful website when beginning to learn about Photoshop brushes. The term "brush" refers to all Photoshop drawing tools such as a pencil instead of merely a paint brush. This website displays information about customizing the brush, changing brush size, creating a new brush, and pivoting the brush shape. It also mentions various brush modes such as Normal, Threshold, and Dissolve. Resetting all tools will allow you to return to standard brush settings. - McCannas Photoshop Tips
When the viewers first come into this web site, viewers will mostly have trouble finding the subject that they wanted to learn. However, once the viewers find the subject that they desire, this web site offers the viewers a very specific information along with an actual tool-box in the photo shop. In addition, not like other web sites, the viewers will actually get to have a chance to learn the tips (I mean the real "tips" not just an ordinary information that viewers can even find them by themselves). - Intro Photoshop: Defining the brush tool
This is a pretty good site, it goes through the many aspects of the brush's and gives a visual so you can follow along on the computer. This tutorial tells us that all of the drawing tools are referred to as brush's, and shows how to change brush size, customize our own brush, and change the spacing, angle and roundness. I think this site would be helpfull for a beginner. Departments/Topics: Painting, painting tools, brushes and -- Site content author: eXtropia. - GraphicSoft.About - Brushes and Fade Command
This site discusses in detail about brushes. The author explains the standard brushes that come with Photoshop. The author mentions how you’re able to create your own brushes from any selection. However, you can only adjust spacing on custom brushes. Finally, the authors mentions double clicking on a brush allows you to change the diameter, hardness, spacing, angle, and roundness. This site was very informational, and I suggest others check it out. Departments/Topics: Painting, painting tools, brushes and -- Site content author: . - Paintbrush Tool - Image Shop (digiCollage)
The site is broken down into very basic instructions that would be very helpful to someone who has never used Photoshop in their life. There are written directions, then an illustration to the right of the instructions that has a running 'play-by-play' of each of the steps. It shows which buttons to push, every move the mouse makes, and looks just like the Photoshop program. Excellent for a beginner! - Photoshop Brushes (CSSN.nevada.edu)
This tutorial is about the Brush Palette and how to use it basically. I thought this particular website was pretty helpful to learning more about the Brush Palette. It tells you where things are located and how to get there. There are very good diagrams that show exactly what things really look like in Photoshop. It talks about brush sizes and adjustments, also ways to enable, emphasize, and add to a brush's appearance (such as noise, airbrush, smoothing, etc.)Also on this site you can learn how to preview the selected brush like it's diameter, its angel, its roundness or hardness etc. Departments/Topics: Painting, painting tools, brushes and -- Site content author: M.E. - Transparency and Blending Modes
This site explains how to use transparency and blending modes to give your images more depth. It discusses the Opacity slider and where it is located and how exactly you can make your image go from transparent to opaque. It also explains that layer masks allow for more control of transparency, with white making the layer opaque and black making it transparent. This site also discusses different blending modes like normal, multiply, screen, overlay, difference, etc. Departments/Topics: Effects, layers, styles, blending modes and -- Site content author: Paul Vaughn. - Understanding the Brushes Palette (CreativePro)
This is a very extensive explanation of all the different options on the photoshop brushes palette. It is designed for Photoshop 7, but a majority of the options are the same so it still serves as a good resource. - Photoshop Paint Engine
This is a three-page tutorial (apparently the fourth in a series) about the Photoshop Paint engine. The author begins by discussing custom brushes and color dynamics (created in the brush palette) as a way of preserving the brush settings and getting the desired effects from your brush stroke. The site also explains the various settings under Color Dynamics and how the amount of "jitter" in each effects the brush, as well as the Purity of the brush. A pretty informative site, albeit a little crowded from all that ads. Departments/Topics: Painting, painting tools, brushes, brush palette and -- Site content author: Corporate Medianews. - Photoshop Layers
This site explains the usefulness of layers. It shows all the basics like how to make a new layer, how to change them and bind them to each other. It also gets into using transparency a little and explains basically how to do it. It is a simple site but it could be helpful. - Complete list of Photoshop Tips (McCanna)
This is great for if you find that almost perfect clip art but its not quite the perfect color. It shows you how to change the value of your favorite clip art in just a few clicks. Its great! - Intro Photoshop 7 for OS X (CreativeMac)
This site focused more so on the special brush features found on photoshop 7. The set up seemed more user friendly with more accessable palletes, and brush combinations not found in photoshop 6. These features highlighted new functions such as dual brush action, wet edges, etc. This section although covering new features played more so as a newsletter of upcoming tools rather than a tutorial. - Channels and masks (Power Pix)
This site first gives the background information as to exactly what channels and masks are used for and why they can be so helpful when working with detailed selections. The site offers a comprehendable and pretty thorough four step tutorial, however, does not go into much detail concerning all the different ways one can manipulate their image with the channels and masks. - Photoshop Brush Tools and Tutorials
This has probably been my favorite site yet. This is a photo ezine that has a plethora of information about Photoshop and the great thing is it's always changing. Their brush information is sort of a review of how to set up the brushes, however it compares the work of a brush to that of the airbrush and pencil. When you have finishd reading about the brushes, you can go up to the techniques link and find a number of tutorials you can download to practice brush painting, layering, filtering etc in Photoshop. - Photoshop Tutorials...Mask and Blend
I truly enjoyed this site. First of all, in comparison to the other sites I have been to, this one is very "easy" to understand. The site goes through, step by step, how to use the Mask and Blend options in Photoshop 6. On other links on the site, you can familiarize yourself with "hot keys" ( or the finger dance), and how those interplay with making selections, moving selections, etc. It is apparent that the man who made this site truly wants Photoshop users to not just use but use WELL all of the "tricks" he explains.
