Photoshop Selections and Selection Tools
- Photoshop Selection Tools
The website I visited broadly teaches the basic steps to using the Selection Tools. They specify the main tools as the Marquee, Lasso, and Magic Wand tool. Just as the name says, these tools are used to select objects in various ways that other programs such as Paint cannot, making it highly useful in Graphic Design fields. Something new I discovered was that using these tools, using the option bar, I am able to select one or two images, adding, subtracting, and intersecting images easily. - Selection Tool Basics for Photoshop
The University of Utah's publication on the selection tools for Photoshop was not as helpful for someone who is a visual learner. The site had good step by step assistance for anyone who can learn and memorize through detailed words but it lacked some visual references. The only visual references the site included were of the actual tool symbol but when trying to show how to apply the selection tools their were no visual aids. - Powerful Photoshop layers: Power tips production graphics with...
This website is a very well organized and in depth tutorial for people learning to use photoshop layers. It has 6 main points of interest over 6 pages, starting with the basics and going into good detail of each tool and technique. Two new things I learned here were sharing layers between documents and using the flyout menu to merge linked layers. - Learning Fundamentals- Creating Shapes>> the selection tools
This site goes through how to use the selection tools. How to add to [shift], subtract from[alt/opt], and intersect two selections[ctrl/cmd &shift]. The site is 5 pages. It offers limited experiments in order to master these tools. It explains the commands for Mac and pc. Pc ctrl=Mac cmd & pc alt= Mac option. it gives hints. Gives special options for the magnetic tool . Tells you to play with the "color range" function. Finally it talks about the path tools; pen, freeform pen, add anchor point, delete anchor point, and convert point. Pen is like polygon lasso. Freeform is good for organic shapes. Add anchor is for adding new nodes, delete anchor removes the node. The convert tool makes the path bend. Then the site gives a way to make a square with curved edges, and then an exercise to use all the tools in one lesson. Good site for beginners. - TimeDesign
This website I found to be fairly helpful, not too in depth about certain things, but it walks you through all different kinds of techniques that i thought were pretty useful and creative. There are dates of roughly when the links were posted so it keeps updated. There are links to teach you how to burn, insert text, bend and turn things, create different kinds of fabric, etc.. I think I will use this website a lot, since it is really easy to access everything and it's all thoroughly explained. - WebDesignHelper.co.uk - Photoshop Basics Tutorial 24 - Selection
This site gave great examples and step by step moves to using the basic tools in photoshop. I learned, not only how to use photoshop on a mac, but how to use it on my computer at home. I had a great review of the first steps, which for me is a big help. Departments/Topics: Photoshop Tutorial Report and -- Site content author: Trevor Morris. - Jay Arraich's Photoshop Tips
This page looks like a good source to come to for help, tips and tutorials in Photoshop. It has good visuals and descriptions. The topics range from color correction to 3-d text; it also gives a good overview of the seven main tools on the toolbar. I would recommend this site for anyone who needs a little extra explanation and/or practice using the main photoshop tools. - Basic Shapes in Photoshop
This site appealed to me in many different ways. It was very clear as to what she/ the company was trying to convey, as well as an overall pleasing web page. All of the instructions and tips were easy to understand and in plain simple english. The basics were taught on this page;including, making basic shapes, creating layers, colors as well as other basic concepts! The site is a walk through so that one can follow their directions and work out the problems as being instructed. A very helpful site if you are a visual learner, due to all the pictures and easily understood graphics. There are also helpful hints to speed up the process and make the user more comfortable with the tool bar and understanding each function Departments/Topics: Photoshop Tutorial Report and -- Site content author: myjanee graphic creations (?). - photoshop 7 tutorial
This web site provided me with what is called a training movie which can me viewed by the quick time player, this particular movie outlined the selection tool and functions. It was actually really helpful and I was very surprised. It is voice activated and talks about the selection tool and function and how to do the short cuts by hiting just the keyboard letter as opposed to clicking with the mouse. It was great because it helped me brush up on the terminology and basically reemphasized what I already learned. - Getting Started in Computer Graphics
This website was more like an essay rather than tips on photoshop. But the content of the website was very interesting and it really makes me think if i really want to go into the field of computer graphics. Also, McCanna gives a list of what kind of equipment you should have before actually doing computer graphics, so in a way that was helpful. - Adobe Photoshop Basics: Toolbox and Selection Tools
This is an excellent site for describing the selection tools. There is a picture of the tool bar that has the selection tools on it. There is at least one paragraph talking about each tool and then a cleace picture of the tool and its effects on the right side. - A Mac Family Reunion
This site is interesting because it contains personal accounts from someone who met Andy Hertzfeld. It also gives the reader a feel of how it is to be inside "the mac world", and how it truely is very different from the PC, as far as the bitmapped and vector worlds go. (towards the bottom there are also pictures of Andy) Departments/Topics: Other: noted in description and -- Site content author: Macworld. This link was submitted by: Cabrian, posted on 9/8/2003
- Inside Graphics - for the latest in graphics
Under the Photoshop link for this site, there are several categories ranging from text Effects to making textures to retouching photos. Since we are only in our second lesson of Photoshop, the web buttons instructions were the only ones that created effects using the tools I know. For example, to create a simple button, I learned that you draw a circle with the elliptical marquee, use the gradient tool for shading, make a smaller circle to put on top and shade in the opposite direction. - Adobe Photoshop
This site teaches you how to use Photoshop. The author describes directions very clearly and highlights vocabulary that is important to learn. Pictures are also included on this site showing step by step examples of what is being written about. The site is organized into an outline, covering, from what I can tell, all or most of the information to learn about Photoshop. - Virtual training help center for Photoshop
This site is great to learn and to better understand the selection tools. It basically teaches how to use all the selection tools in very good detail. It goes step by step on how to select items in different ways and the easiest ways for the shape of the object. Teaches you exactly how to use the magic wand, and what all the options are and what the tolerance level means.
