Quark XPress Tips & Tutorials

  1. lynda.com
This site offered a couple quicktime movie tutorials. The one I watched involved the basics of quarkxpress 5. I don't know much at all about quark, but it seems that it is a text oriented program? The tutorial started by explaining how to open a new file (similar to photoshop or illustrator). Then it did a basic run through of the tool bar, which has a lot less tools than the adobe programs. One neat tool is a free drawn text box type tool. You draw a shape and that becomes your text box. I noticed a lot of the commands were similar to Adobe programs. For example, when rotating text, you can use the shift key and that will limit the rotation to 45 degree movements. 2. College of Design, Computer Labs: QuarkXPress
I thought that this site was really interesting, because it was for a class at Iowa State. It just goes through what they are going to do in class, but I found it to be really helpful, and it is very detailed. I learned about Quark, just from watching what this class was going to do. And at the very end, it goes over printing. It was pretty much just like any other tutorial page, because it was so detailed, and had pictures to go along with the directions. 3. Digital Training & Designs: Tips and Techniques
This site I chose because I think it is important to learn tips and shortcuts before beginning a program so that when someone is beginning to learn, they automatically will know the best and most efficient way to operate. In this site, they teach a few keyboard shortcuts, similar to ones used in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Another example is it says copy a paragraph style for another paragraph without creating a style sheet. First you select the parapgraph that you want to format, then Option-Shift-click (Mac) Alt-Shift-click (Win) in the paragraph with the formatting you want to copy. The paragraph formatting is applied to the previous paragraph. There are other formating, layout, preference, and other guidelines. 4. Formatting text in QuarkXpress
Although this is a site done into a pdf file, it is still extremely informative. It talks about the toolbox an all of the different icons on it. It also talks about different types of type and text as well as style sheets and importing text. It is an excellent site. 5. ABE, The University of Liverpool: Illustrator tutorial 5a
This is an interesting site. It has some description of how to use the pen tool and also how to work with paths. It has ok pictures and the whole thing is an alright project but its not realy that great of a site. Departments/Topics: Illustrator Tutorial Report and -- Site content author: CAADRU.
