A step by step process takes you through how to make eyes a little whiter, change the color of lips or lipstick, and sharpen the image overall. Some background in selection tools and masking is helpful. I like this tutorial because of its practical application of recent tools and techniques we've learned in class. Posted on 02/16/2004

This tutorial was very thorough. It gave you downloads to use and walked you through step by step of exactly how to use all different kinds of masks and channels. It seemed to be exactly like what we did last class. It was also great because he gave the keyoard commands for how to do almost ever single little thing you could do. Photo retouching is an art and the amount of time spent on it depends on what the final product will be used for. If your end product needs to be larger or printed in high quality offset printing, more exacting retouching work is required. This is a very good site which allows the viewer to see the improvements that can be made in PhotoShop to make a damage picture seem as if nothing was wrong with it at all. With the use of layer adjustments, controlling the channels at the right time, using a mask when needed, merging layers together, and using the dodge and burn tools allows a damaged picture to be new once more. In the process of making the picture new one can use the Filter selection and select noise dust and scratches, making the picture seem like it didnt have any scratches or dust at all. This site is actual a part of three pages, each one telling a bit of useful information that will be needed in this career of a graphic designer. Posted on 02/16/2004 - Adobe Photoshop: Fixing a bad photograph
This site is a step-by-step "how-to" on retouching a photograph. It gave tips on deleting unwanted items in a picture, how to make a brighter sky, and selecting tones to blend and smooth edges. The tints and colors of a picture are other important things to help the quality of the final image, highlighting bright areas and masking others. Posted on 02/16/2004 - Replacing a Defective Head
This was a neat site with lots of turorials. The one I chose was on Photoshop retouching, about how to replace a head in a photo. The head can be cut and manipulated with the pen tool, and then free transform. then the color needs to be adjusted to fit into the rest of the picture. Although not at a beginners level, the tutorial gave useful information and was easy to follow. I would recommend this site to any one looking at learning the basics of photo retouching. In the old days the photo retoucher worked with an array of special tools such as fine knifes, small brushes, burnishing tools and magnify glasses. Today most photographers have all those tools and many more incorporated within software right on their computer. But the problem for most photographers is how to use these computer tools effectively and efficiently Posted on 02/16/2004 - Photo Retouching Techniques
The first thing to do it to evaluate your image. You want to make sure that the image has both adequate highlight and shadow detail if possible. Next, do any obvious retouching and changing to the photo such as removing dust spots and cropping. Save as a TIFF flie. Use the painting tools to do small detailed work such as removing moles and wrinkles. Using the mask tool makes it much easier to do detailed work without hurting the origional. Dodging and Buring is a very effective way of enhancing the image. This is good for bringing out the details in eyes for example. Smoothing the background, will be very beneficial in t he printing process. Posted on 02/16/2004 - Photo Retouching Techniques (2)

This site uses a real picture and goes step by step looking at whats wrong with it and how it can be fixed. After using the eye dropper to pick your color, click on new layer so that you can begin to make adjustments. Fill the new layer completely with the color. it will be behind the original image. then use then blending tool to blend the edges of the image. she recommends using the dodge tool. Another option is to add a mask to the color correction layer. and then add black as needed to make adjustments. i think this is a good site because she uses pictures as examples so you can see each step.
