Information about the lasso tools: The lasso tools help you to select areas in your document. If you hold down the ctrl and the Alt (or apple) keys and click on your document, from point to point, it will create a straight line and when you want to return to free hand just let go of the keys. Author, Jim Frew, talks about the Photoshop selection tools: Marquee and Lasso, Magic Wand, Feather Tool, Color Range, Tweaking Tools, and Filters. From reading this, I learned of the capabilities of the Marquee and Lasso. They can be used for array of selections tasks, whether it be quick or detailed. The Feather tool can create fuzzy lines when selecting and the Magic Wand selects areas with similar color ranges. Filters are great tools to use, however, over use can crowd or take away from your work. Posted on 8/30/2004 - Photoshop Selection Tools
The tutorial began with a basic overview of the major selection tools. They described the basic functions of the marquee, lasso, move, and magic wand tools. In addition, they went into the options that come with each tool. I also learned how to reposition, move, transform and change size with some of the techniques. For instance, they used the marquee tool to maneuver simpler shapes whereas the magic wand and lasso came in handy with irregular shapes like a pear or a bowtie. The site was clear in explanation on the various tasks. Posted on 8/30/2004 - Photoshop Tips
This seems to be a very useful site. It goes through each chacteristic and each tool. It shows how each icon looks so you can find it easily. It also explains how to use each tool. It seems that everything is covered and it would be a good site to go to for reference. Posted on 8/30/2004 - (Download PDF) Photoshop Tips and Tricks Tutorial: Photoshop Selection Tools (2nd site listed)
I found this site to be very informative and extremely detailed. The tutorial found here gave step-by-step instructions, along with the actual selection tools found in Photoshop. It covered the four basic selection tools, as well as some hidden tools. Becuase the tutorial gave such great instructions, I was able to follow allong easily and even try the steps on my own program. I learned that each tool not only has it's own importance, depending on your project, but also many of the selction tools work together as well. Posted on 8/30/2004
