- Photoshop Layers & Masks (NMSU.edu)
I found this site to somewhat use full. It covered the basics for the most part, but it stopped there. While it discussed how to create Alpha Layers and how to use a Layer Mask, I belive the author of this site could have gone into more depth. Nonetheless, I did learn how to create a gradient layer mask, as well as some cool stuff that have nothing to do with Layer Masks; like creating a starfield. By using channels and masks, you can reduce the red by using the channel mixer and setting the red to zero then playing with the green and blue to get the color your looking for. Posted on Mon Sep 13 15:42:05 - Photoshop Tips: Using a Layer Mask
In this tutorial, we learn the basic steps behind creating a layer mask. By making a new layer with the copy of the background, we are able to add a layer mask and attach it to this new layer. Using the gradient tool on the layer mask, we can create a very interesting visual image. On top of this, we can adjust the gradient scale to our preference for ultimate aesthetic satisfaction. This tutorial was extemely informative and easy to follow when learning the painting process. The instructions and examples were very detailed with replicas of the actual tools from the program. I learned the difference between the brush and pencil tools, when to use and not use each, as well as how to adjust and format them to your liking. I found the explanations for the settings when painting especially helpful. Posted on Sun Sep 12 20:12:15 - Paint Tools
In Photoshop the paint tools don't just consist of it's many brushes. The options of using the pencil, airbrush, and paint bucket are also available. Each tool gives the task at hand a different look. The color used for each tool can be hand picked, and the painting tool choosen determines the sharpness or softness of the line or image filled. This site also contains links to other tutorials on the other tools within Photoshop. Posted on Mon Sep 13 00:46:34 - Photoshop Layer Masks
When you are in mask edit mode, the mask icon will be to the right of the eye icon in the layer palette. Now all edits made to the image will now be to the mask and not the image itself. Then you will use the paintbrush tool to edit. When is it black the image will disappear, adn when the paintbrush is painting in white, the image will reappear. To switch the two colors back and forth, press the X button. Posted on 9/13/2004 - Painting, Editing, and Type
You can choose your brush setting from the Brush Palette or the Brush Preset Picker, both on the option bar. They will show Stroke Thumbnails. You can change the size of the brush by moving the Master Diameter slider, or type in a size. THere are many effects that can be changed for the brush strokes. For example there is hardness, spacing, roughness, and angle to name a few. Posted on Sun Sep 12 17:25:38
