- Healing Brush/ Patch Tool
This is a really cool website that shows how to use the healing brush and patch tool. The tutorial starts with a scanned picture of a person's face and gives step-by-step instructions on how to touch up the image. One thing that I really like about the site is that it has a lot of screen captures to show you exactly where to get the tools. Also, it gives you all the brush settings that the person used to adjust the picture. The final result is very impressive and realistic. This tutorial explained what a mask is, the different types of masks, its basic uses and functions, and tips for working with masks. I found the instructions for creating your own masks and layers exra helpful, especially with the examples given. I also found the explainations of when to use and not use a mask, by using different everyday situations as examples, very helpful as well. Posted on Sun Sep 2004 - Using Photoshop Strategically
This site offers tips and strategies on how to use Layer Masks and channels to achieve certain "tricks" through photoshop. It is a tutorial with images to guide you through the process. You can apply the process in your other works such as photo editing. The guide shows you the function of the buttons within layer masking and channels. although we have already used the Gaussian tool, one tuturoial showed how you can a use of it for a nice realistic spotlight. just create your lighter part and then burn in the areas that don't have a reflective property, such as air. Posted on Mon Sep 20 2004 - Retouching Images
This tutorial discusses the different ways to retouch a photograph. The tools that can be used are the cropping tool, the sharpen and smooth tools, and the different adjustment tools: brightness/contrast, levels (to adjust midtones), and color balance. Posted on Mon Sep 20 2004 - "Save Time Tweaking" Tutorial
This tutorial shows many tricks that can be performed with channels, specifically with alpha channels. I learned that alpha channels can be added with no color information. Any modified area or section can be saved to an alpha channel so that it can be recalled at any time. Also, the alpha channel is very effective as a grayscale channel in that it contains 256 levels of gray. A major conclusion reached is that alpha channels and layer masks operate in similar ways but create different end results. Posted on Mon Sep 20 2004,
