- Step by Step Retouching
This tutorial gives a basic overview to retouching any conventional face photo. It involves a simple 8-step process in order for the user to follow along easily. After creating a background copy to work with, we first get rid of the major blemishes with the patch and clone tools. Following that, we can use the dodge and burn tools to lighten the eyes and the teeth. The healing brush can be used to fix parts of the hair. Finally, we add a blur to the image to soften the skin a little. We can adjust the opacity in order to avoid overdoing it. The tutorial concludes with a before and after photo and an estimated time of completion to emphasize how fast and easy it is to complete. Posted on 10/03/2004 - Photoshop Beauty Retouching
In this tutorial, I found that you can manipulate a photograph by taking chunks of other photographs and copy and pasting them into the image you want to manipulate. So instead of using the clone tool, the healing tool, or the patch tool, you can feather the selected chunk and add it to the area you want. The example they give is extending hair. The author of this site, Suzette Allen, first recommends to always duplicate the background layer and rename it, take a snapshot, put the history mark on the new snapshot, and then convert the image to 300dpi (do not resample). For facial retouching on Photoshop, Allen uses the Clone tool to repair and then turns the opacity done on the layer to let some of the wrinkles come back in for a more natural look. She covers a broad spectrum of photo retouching and her basic statement is to not over do it. Posted on 10/03/2004 - Patch Tool
This site explains the three possible ways to retouch using patch tool. Two of the techniques assist in retouching by taking pixels from other areas on the picture. The third method is to use the pattern patch tool and choosing a pattern from the options bar. Posted on Mon Sep 27 01:28:00 - Ades Design - Adobe Photoshop Tutorials
This site teaches you a specific technique with photo retouching. It is a tutorial that teaches you how to whiten teeth in a picture using desaturation and opacity levels. The Ades Design site also has several different tutorials on photo retouching. Posted on Mon Sep 27 01:13:04 - Retouching and Repairing
To patch up an image, one can use the clone stamp too, which is shown as a stamp icon on the left. Hold down the ALt key on Windows or the Option key on a Mac to sample an area. Then use your clone paintbrush to copy that image on other areas. Also one can creat a pattern by using the marquee tool to select an area as the pattern. Once you have it as a pattern, use the stamp pattern tool to use your new pattern. Posted on Sat Sep 25 18:16:41 - Improving Tone and Removing Dust & Mold
This site has a sample tutorial from Katrin Eismann's Photoshop book. It gives instructions and tool settings used to retouch a picture that is faded and damaged by dust and mold. She uses several techniques, including creating an image adjustment layer, making a duplicate layer with "lighten blend mode", adding a noise filter, and applying the clone tool. This tutorial shows that there are several ways to fix difficult problems, and that the retoucher should be willing to try more than one technique. Posted on Mon Sep 27 09:48:09 - Repairing Color Photos in Photoshop 7
This site focuses on a few basic processes for repairing your own color photos in photoshop, such as deminishing red eye, simple color correction to a dark or aged photo, and removing unwanted distractions from a photo. The site was easy to follow with examples of damaged photos and copies of the appropriate toolbars and tools. I found the section on how much correction is too much correction very helpful. Posted on Wed Sep 22 19:17:02 - Photoshop: Painting, Editing, and Type
This tutorial is basically a collection of many miniature tutorials and overviews on tools and techniques in photoshop. We are shown the variety of options we have to choose from with the painting tool as well as the differences that exist between them. It is shown that other tools such as the stamp tools, blur tool and smudge tool also allow you to paint in photoshop. Photoshop version 7 introduces the brush preset picker. We are shown a general overview of how the entire brush palette functions through various dimensions such as angle, roundness, spacing, and hardness. The tutorial continues with other paint settings and shows how to create a brush from an image. It concludes with lessons on the stamp, gradient, and type tools. Retouching a Photo is in a way like the Special Forces: No one must of any action you took to retouch the photo. Every move must be subtle and unnoticed. In addition to this, a checklist should be made to insure that the job is complete and neither over nor under done. Futhermore, this author of this site begins to describe learned tricks, such as caucasian blemishes show up best in the Green Channel in RGB mode. And describes how to change the color of the quick mask in cases where the picture is predominatly red. Posted on 10/03/2004
