Chromosome, by Brian Wilson mimics the type you might get from
a 1960s-vintage, hand-held label-tape gun. It comes in Mac or PC/Windows formats,
in two weights, light and heavy -- a reference to how hard you might've squeezed.
The heavy weight has that telltale embossed look that seems especially genuine when
it's reversed out of a dark strip; the light weight is lean and spare; the two work
well separately or may be mixed together to good effect. (The two weights behave
as a family: the Plain or Roman style is Chromosome Light; applying a style of "Bold"
should get you Chromosome Heavy.) True to its origins, Chromosome is an all-caps
typeface.
You are invited to contact Brian with comments, criticisms, bugs, suggestions,
and/or other styles you'd like to see.
Since this is shareware, Brian does request a $10 registration fee. For that
fee he'll send Chromosome with a complete character set, all standard punctuation
marks, accents, and ligatures, plus a number of alternate letterforms designed to
simulate errant baseline offsets.
As an added value, he'll also throw in a reversed version of each weight, along
with trial copies of a few other typefaces. Contact Brian Willson at:
In its new, commercial-only incarnation, Chromosome remains a four-style
typeface, but it'll now cost (as of 01 January) US$39. Like all my fonts,
it's available at The Type Quarry, my little Web foundry: http://www.typequarry.com/
