- I chose this link to click on because the title caught my interest. It loaded quickly, but then I was bombarded by a visually distracting tiled background image that was far too dark and busy to be used as background.
When my eyes recovered from the shock, I found some navigation buttons which took me to other pages that had interesting information, but absolutely no visual 'pull' whatsoever.
I finished working my way through the buttons, and I then saw the navigation links on the left side. They had been literally lost in the background. Clicking on these links gave me page after page of printable activities and downloadable backgrounds. (yipes!)
- The site has great content. It was my interest in the content that influenced my decision to review the site. Instead, I found it difficult to enjoy the content due to its lack of organization and planning. The navigation links should be arranged in a manner that draws the viewer's attention to them.
The initial focus should be on what the site has to offer, but instead my eyes were immediately overwhelmed by the distracting background. The linked pages were dull and lifeless. The graphics were not very clean.
If all these things were taken into consideration, this site would have awesome potential!
- Editor Notes:
- Christina is right! We've seen it time and time again: the site developer becomes so infatuated with the ability to "decorate" they lose sight of the reason they were developing the web site in the first place.
If the owner of this site would have asked around and tested it on some friends or colleagues, I'll bet those backgrounds wouldn't be there!
