| Joyce and Fred peek in on the PowerPoint Tutorial Site (continued) | |
| Fred sez: you've found a real winner here __ Well, Joyce, I have to admit that you've found a real winner here. However, in keeping with my tough-guy facade, I have to red-line something, right? While this is really an excellent site, I can do some nit-picking that will improve the delivery of its detailed and complete information. (Actually taught me how to use PowerPoint! Believe it or not.) |

__ This superb art and color scheme would be wonderful
if it didn't run off the right-hand side in 15" or smaller monitors. The site
is aimed at educators, and teachers. Not many of them will have larger monitors.
__ (Compare the nicely done screen at left, with the inital arrival screen, which should have been narrower.)Remember to consider the audience's equipment. |
| __Sue and Jim sure are swell folks... I only wished
their expressions changed from time to time! __Additionally, the type selection throughout the site is far too small for monitors set to 800 or 1100 resolution. I viewed the site on a VGA monitor running at 1024 x 768 and could hardly read the text. Eyestrain! __Speaking of typography, I also want to point out that although
the presentation of the type has an elegant air about it, the colors will not be
seen by many people. Some research has shown that potentially as many as 68% of the
male population has some form of color deficiency. (Women are not as inclined to
have sight problems as Men.) I had to darken the green just to get it to show up
in the reduced screen capture version! |

__So that light gold and light green type may not even be seen by many people. Those who do see it, won't want to see very much of it because it will begin to swim against the white background and eyestrain will set in. (Also consider printing: we tried it on a B&W printer and the results were unreadable.) The white type on medium blue backgrounds are handsome to look at, but very tedious to read. Printing also is a problem. |
