Mr. Pixelsmith Slices JPG files
... Slicing Images for Tables

Crop'n'chop...
We chopped the Photoshop file into 7 distinct pieces, then fit them into a “0" (zero x zero) border/spacing/inset table. This can be difficult or easy depending on whether or not you design from the very beginning with the goal of a chopped image.

The files can be JPG or GIF, but with GIF files the export leaves the original file ready for the REVERT command -- a real time saver.

The image was 540 x 300. Thinking progressively we used the Canvas Size dialog to do all the work for us. Once we had out smallest possible optimized image, the final GIF was saved. The first cut was in half for a 540 x 150 (#1) across the top. That was chopped in thirds 180 x 150. At each chop the file was exported. Using File > Revert brings back the 540x150 ready for the next chop. In the Canvas Size dialog we simply clicked the cel and keyed in the size we wanted. Bingo, correct sized files.
