In particular, it is driven toward asthma in infants and toddlers and new diagnoses. There is a bulletin board and an associated Yahoo-based list that both see a fair amount of traffic. The site enjoys nice search engine/directory placement, which is nice because I've worked very hard at optimizing the pages, particularly the home page (the dialog therein may seem somewhat stilted for that reason). I sell nothing and gain nothing, unless you count a lame Amazon Associates account that has netted me a grand total of $19 in four years. I do want to make sure the site is enjoyable and easy to read for my visitors, however, so would appreciate any and all tips to improve things. The story itself, aside from being interesting for children, is to help build a child's power of imagination. The web site on purpose breaks some convensional rules about web designing. Numerous animated GIF's have been used to illustrate the story, which is against the convensional wisdom that says animated GIF's should only be used sparingly. Additionally, the background image of each page matches the story, and hence the background image of each page is not uniform. This is yet another break of rules of web site designing. In this site, I have tried to prove that one can get away from conventions provided there is a good reason to do so. It's actually a great piece of work, and a good concept -- however, kill the bold text. Hard reading for that much text. You should also consider breaking the story into smaller pages to give all that blinking a rest. Be sure to use "preloading" to prepare the graphics in the browser cache for the next page.
