Emeraldac.org Athletics page
Provides information in an efficient manner. I am undertaking the task of redesigning the site and would really appreciate any input. I think the site is out of date, in the main section there should be information with more links and the menu on the side should not open in that area but on to a new page.

Let's Talk Honestly--An African American Site
My site originally started as a site for my book but has now become more of a resource for black authors and creative types. Some features include the poetry contest where readers pick the winner as well as a African American comic strip page as well as a column from an African American advice columist. More importatntly there are 2 pagesxof links to AA sites 1 of which contains links to AA authors both established and up and coming. There is of course 2 pages of my own writing the newsletter and the daily thought.

SuperWebStars Talent/Entertainment event site
The SuperWebStars website features talented performers, videotaped in a live talent show event, and posted on the internet for the world to see. The website features over 65 performances encoded with Windows Media 9 technology. The event and website also features rotating banner ads and a proprietary designed media player with link buttons to sponsors. Following each event, a 30 day window of on-line voting determines a competition winner who receives recognition in the form of a cash award.

Freakscene: Irelands longest running Indie/Alternative music nightclub event
This site was origionally set up about 7 years ago to promote a twice-weekly clubnight. The organiser has moved venues several time in the past few years due to club venues closing down, changing genre etc so a website was created to add stability for the regulars (different venues but same DJs, music, organisers etc..). It also is the base for a weekly mailshot, reaching about 2,000 active email accounts every week with promotion updates, competitions etc. It has since morphed into a whole starting-point for the cities indie/alternative music clubbers internet experience, including lots of online album/band reviews, news, a photo gallery from special events, a very popular forum and so on. Basically the site was origionally set up as a small 5 page site that could easilly be maintained by the organiser/main DJ who had limited HTML experience and little money to employ a full time web master. Understandably sine then it has morphed in to a very large monster, yet still all the html pages are hand coded, limiting change, and the look-feel hasnt had an overhaul in a long long time. Just wondering what suggestions, if any, you could provide as I would like to propose a few changes to the owner of the site, espically in terms of layout and useability. Problem is, he can be a bit of a perfectionest and the site reamains his 'little baby', so this is why im turning to such professionals as yourselves for advice. As a friend/part time html jockey for the site, id like to introduce some breath of fresh air and would be very grateful for any assistance, be it a brief critque or any form of positive critism. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I await your response, Yours gratefully, Jack Baylor

Band site with a passion for music
... and a passion for Christ. The site's main function is to spread the word about this new band and provide information on it. This being our first web site, everything probably needs to be critiqued, with the mindeset that this site was coded by hand, and not with a powerful software kit. The logo on the main page is actually the idea of our band's leader, so a critique on that would be nice. Thank you for your consideration.

[Critique] Thomasinamusic.com
Thomasinamusic.com is home of aspiring vocalist, Thomasina. Content on this site includes streaming audio or full downloads of her demo, a background biography, performance schedule, and more. Thomasina feels that she is giving back to the music community by allowing others to see how a demo is made, and what it consists of.

Reviewing Web Sites

One designer recently said

"You learn good design by looking at bad design."
... another states
"You learn good design through the works of others."

Both of these are correct -- but only to a certain point. We believe that you learn good design through the works of others only when you make an effort to actually evaluate the work and state why you think it works or doesn't work. Only then do you actually make it part of your knowledge-base. We're all born with the same set of tools. Those tools you develop and 'grow' are the ones that you use for life -- the effective ones.

If you find a site you like, make an effort to state why you like it. If it doesn't work, state why -- regardless of whether or not you tell the rest of us about your feelings. Just do it!
