About Selecting
Cells and Tables
To make changes to the structure or formatting of a table or its cells, you must
first select the table or cells you want to change.
To select a cell
- Click once within the cell to position the insertion point inside it. A thick
gray box appears around the entire table.
- Press the mouse button down and drag to the border of the cell. A selection border
appears around the cell (see Figure 12).
To select multiple cells
- Click once within the top left cell in the intended selection to position the
insertion point inside it. A thick gray box appears around the entire table.
- Press the mouse button down and drag to the border of the bottom right cell in
the intended selection. A selection border appears around the cells (see Figure
13).
To select an entire table
- Click once anywhere within a table cell. A thick gray box appears around the
entire table.
- Click once on the gray box around the table. A selection box, complete with resizing
handles, appears around the table (see Figure 14).
To deselect a table or cell(s)
Click anywhere outside the table. The selection box disappears.
Tips
- When one or more cells is selected, clicking any other cell selects that cell.
- When selecting cells, be careful not to drag a selection. If you accidentally
drag cells to a new position, use the Undo command to replace them.
