- There are lots and lots... these are others we tested...
The Bottom 5
Point -- http://www.pointcom.com/
These are the guys who gave away all those meaningless "Top 5" awards in
the early days, just so their logo would be on everyone's page. There are still quite
a few of those logos hanging around, mostly on pages updated
in 1995. Lycos owns them, so that should give you a clue.
Search.com -- http://www.search.com/
Here's CNET's site offering 250 ways to search the Net, and 250 ways to be insulted.
Remember 'Download.com'? Cnet, in their relentless quest to own everything on the
net has done the job on search.com. True to their formula of buying the cool URL
name, then building a page of links to someone else's resources, this spam-ridden
site doesn't even have its own content. It's borrowed from Infoseek. Thumbs down.
Netscape Destinations --
Is another cheap Yahoo-driven false front... always too busy to get in to. Go to
Yahoo instead.
Microsoft's Internet Explorer
-- http://home.microsoft.com/Search/
...shouldn’t be in this article. Simply would not load. Then gave a 404.
The HotBot site -- http://www.hotbot.com/
The HotBot is a "Must Avoid" all-in-one search page that gets the award
for being the most rude. The arrival page is so garish it actually hurts your eyes
to look at it. Hot red type on a vivid blue background? Give us a break. HotBot's
saving grace is the selection of search options available, which is actually very
good. Although they claim to be the most complete Web index online (54 million documents)
who cares if it gives you a headache. Is that rude, or what?
If you have a favorite search engine, let
us know.. We love discovering new resources on the nets.

Engine" index...
