Is Social Media Advertising or PR?

PR excels at messaging, but advertising focuses on results. So where does that leave your social media marketing? Who manages your company’s social media?
The social world for marketers remains a space where rules are yet to be written. But whether you think of social media as PR or marketing matters: It changes the tenor and the implications of your interactions, not to mention what you get out of them.

Social media users say Pinterest is as popular as Twitter

While Facebook reigns supreme in the social media landscape, the latest study by Pew shows users are pinning just as much as they're tweeting.
Twitter attracted 16% of social media users, followed by 15% on Pinterest in 2012. Everyone's favorite pastime is still Facebook, though, raking in a majority of respondents' votes. Tumblr comes in as the least popular with only 6% of people on the site.

Take advantage of Facebook's new cover photo rules

Facebook launched Timeline in February 2012, and ever since then it has had strict rules for business pages and their cover photos. But times have changed, and now business owners can (almost) forget those rules.
Facebook recently relaxed its cover photo guidelines. The only rule left standing is that your text cannot take up more than 20 percent of the cover photo space. This is great news for page administrators who are eager to use cover photos to their full potential.

The Unbreakable Rules of Video

We all have our favorite online videos, whether you’re partial to kids doing the latest dance craze, cat bloopers, or unbelievable basketball shots. Such videos have racked up millions of views, but going viral may not be the best goal for your association videos. Instead, you want to get your videos in front of the right audience.
Video content is all about engaging your audience—it helps build your brand, improves your search engine results, and gives your audience something to talk about online.

Tweeting your way to a successful industry blog

In order for your company to really use digital communications to the fullest, you’ve simply got to have an industry blog. A company blog allows you to do many things: It’s your chance to strut your stuff, show off, discuss industry news and have your voice heard. Your company blog is totally in your control, there are no character limits and no restrictions as to what you can talk about.
Blogging also allows your company to establish itself as an expert in the field. At Garden Media Group, we have two areas of expertise: public relations and gardening. To have our voice heard in each niche industry, we have two blogs, which allows us to double our audience, SEO keywords and content. While we don’t recommend having two blogs, it is important to create a niche and stick to it. But what if your blog is stellar and no one’s reading it? The whole purpose of a company blog is to reach your key audience, and if that’s not happening, your company should make a few changes.

Twitter App Update Improves Search

Twitter updated its mobile apps and mobile site Wednesday, adding enhancements to search, web browsing, and autocomplete suggestions.
Across the board you’ll now see improved search results when searching for tweets. Working alongside the recently added ability to see older tweets, now when you perform searches you’ll be given a “top Tweet” at the top of the screen that Twitter feels best matches your particular query.

Write more successful blog posts

There are a staggering 200 million blogs worldwide today, and as many as four million blog posts published per day. Yet with so much competition, most blog posts go virtually unread. Writing a blog is an excellent way for a professional to become a better writer, drive leads for a business, and express oneself.
