March: Women’s History Month

This will be the 15th year we’ve celebrated women in the design and visual communications fields, and this year we have more samplings than ever! But first…

WELCOME New Members! Thanks for joining — all new readers are invited to join in, and have a good time. There are thirteen different countries represented in this month’s new readers, and we’re certainly pleased you’ve joined us! Dittos goes for all those now following us on Twitter, we’re having a great time getting so many great leads!

FaceBook: Graphic Design & DTG Group

Last weekend we decided to go ahead and make the leap into the full-fledged networking world. Since LinkedIn has been such a dud for us, we decided to give FaceBook a whirl — 9 members so far — but it’s just beginning.

You are invited to join in the fun! Who has joined?
* Chuck Green – world acclaimed graphic design guru, author of the “Graphic Design Idea Book” and the whole series of InDesign Template “Idea” books!
* Katrin Eissman – yes, the Photoshop Diva herself is with us — probably one of the most quoted Photoshop retouchers and specialists in the world, after Scott Kelby of course
* Giovanni Russo – renown Itallian designer and the graphic genius force behind those spectacular Russo Grafico pop-up 3D paper sculpture cards!
* Richard Lynch — Photoshop Elements Hidden Secrets guru, the designer and image editing expert who brought Photoshop functions and features to Elements!
* Kate Ryland House – Facebook’s Adobe InDesign page celebrity herself
* Dewi Juliana – Design Taxi’s golden girl (Careful, Design Taxi crashes Safari about every time… use FireFox)
… and even our first guest with a graphic design question about her logo design — in the discussions area.

It’s all fun, and we’re looking forward to meeting and greeting with you in the Graphic Design & DTG Magazine group on Facebook

March: Designing Women

Celebrating Women’s History Month, we’ll revisit some favorites, and discover some new ones * Redefining the “F” word * Guerrilla Girls * Nervy Girls * Professional Women Web Designers * Nerd Girls * Girl Scouts of the USA and more March: Designing Women

Designing Women: Simulating Life

A unique trip for the 15th Annual “Designing Women” edition of DTG — here are some outstanding talents in the graphic design field … enjoy the ride

Women of Design

Influence and inspiration from the original trailblazers to the new groundbreakers. Women in Design takes you to the most excellent designing women in the industry. Don’t miss it!

Tutorial: Build a grid in Photoshop

Photoshop 911 forum member laments that none of the online tutorials for grids allow the grid to work out evenly in the required picture space. Well, that’s because most of those tutorials never consider real-world application. Here… let me show you how…

The perfect photo subject?

What happens when the perfect photo subject is following you around every day? Find out with some delightful photos and commentary by Penina Finger, Design Professional from Atlanta, Georgia. She was a “Designing Women” feature a few years ago, so we’re revisiting her space …

High dynamic range, HDR WOW

Trey Ratcliff’s writings and tutorials in high dynamic range photography has spawned a huge following in this dramatic technique for taking pictures. When you see it, you won’t be able to resist the camera to Photoshop results High dynamic range, HDR WOW

High Dynamic Range Photography

Speaking of High Dynamic Range Imaging, this technique lets you to portray a much greater range of tonal detail than a given camera could capture in a single photo. Utilizing HDR in Photoshop makes for some spectacular photos. Let’s take a look

The Backchannel

Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking channels may just railroad your information delivery! You’ve got to be up to speed on today’s social networking channels … and that means the backchannel

The Risks of the Backchannel

If presenters and audiences aren’t prepared for the impact of a backchannel, there are risks of misunderstandings and public blowups … Nothing gets attention like conflict, and that’s especially true when it comes to the backchannel. The Risks of the Backchannel

60-Seconds: Captions? If you post content

Nothing is more frustrating than to discover something really great on the web — but no contact, name or information. Fred observes the “new anonymity” and how it actually damages new talents – Please write captions!

Preparing Raster Images

Whether you acquire an image from a scanner, a digital camera, a royalty-free CD, or a stock photography vendor, it’s made out of pixels. Those pixels need to be near perfect in order for the final print to be perfect

Mailbag: $5 back for Dummies

Our friend, Adrienne Fontaine, out at Dummies Books sent this email — from March 1, 2010 through April 30 Dummies will have its annual “Dummies Month” celebration — join to get the $5 mail-in rebate with a purchase of any For Dummies book or Audio Set worth $6.99 or more! Pretty good deal!

Site of the Month: Kerstin Fossen

for a new-comer and beginner, we thought Kerstin’s web site is pretty cool… I think it will be a fun visit for everyone!

Hello March … Good News, and Bad News

March, to me is a transitional month. We’ll start getting gentle warm breezes, and brighter days. We’ve been covered up in snow though, and just beginning to see the end of winter. Thank goodness. That’s the good news.

The BAD NEWS is, I’ve spent a number of February days in server / email purgatory. Those cyber criminals I’m always talking about in the www.60-seconds.com column, and over at www.UGNN.com decided to wreak a little havoc on me by spoofing me in their spam to get me blocked. The Design site was down on two different days, and UGNN got hacked by comment spammers. Please WHITE LIST this address, as well as www.DTGnews.com. (Next month’s host) That way, you won’t be reporting us to the spam cops. If you want off the list, we’ve published the unsubscribe notes in each and every Listserv edition since 1994.

Don’t forget the 15th Annual “Designing Women” edition will continue in April. So, nominate your favorite designing woman, or register yourself. — and keep those submissions and emails coming.

March is brought to you by the color GREENs and Yellows

March is brought to you by the letter “M”

Looking forward:
