in honor of Black History Month, we thought it would be fun and educational to take a field trip to some prestigious educational institutions to see some wonderful visual art works by African American Artists & Designers.

This month we have a little something for everyone. From our Photoshop Elements tutorial to some new news items, to my annual Valentine's surf, we'll help ward off the winter doldrums. You really want to read the newsletter because in addition to some interesting news items, we've even got some humor. Harald Heim sent me a flash on the new Photo retouching plug-in that combines shadow/highlight, virtual lighting and color-based correction tools for performing sophisticated corrections without the need for time-consuming selections and layer stacks. It lets you selectively correct photos taken under bad light conditions or with inadequate camera settings and achieve results that rival photos taken under the best circumstances. According to a CNet/ZDnet story, the CIA is quietly funding federal research into surveillance of Internet chatrooms as part of an effort to identify possible terrorists, newly released documents reveal. One of those projects is research at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., devoted to automated monitoring and profiling of the behaviour of chatroom users. Careful what you say. There really isn't a CADD program for the Mac short of the multi-thousand dollar mega-programs. EazyDraw however could come close! This full-featured, vector-based drafting program has been updated and sports a lot of features and capabilities for $115. January came and went so fast I hardly had time to think. After spending 16 days trekking across Africa from Kampala, Uganda; through Tanzania and the Serengeti; to Zanzibar, it's been an incredible month. I hope to have some of the better photos and MPGs next month to share with you. So, there you have it for February!
