Enlarging Photoshop files?
Right after I announce to the world it's not a good idea to enlarge Photoshop images, Steve Teare tells me about the Miranda Stair Interpolation action from Fred Miranda. According to Steve, it works with Photoshop 6.0 or higher, allowing sharp crisp "enlargement" of images. You don't need a bigger digital camera. Go to the site for comparisons with other methods (Genuine Fractals and others.) It's $15, and I'm in contact with Miranda to evaluate it more fully. I'll let you know.

Got folds?
In these days of the web monopolizing the entire publishing industry, few people think about folding. In fact, there has never been a guide for folding. Now there's a guide available to designers and printers which explaines the folding process and all of the different folding styles that can be offered to customers. Finishing Experts Group, Inc., a Baltimore-area publishing company, has just released FOLD: The Professional’s Guide to Folding, establishing naming conventions and standardizing the folding process. The guide documents and classifies more than 180 folding styles, breaking them down into eight folding families (accordions, basics, exotics, gates, maps, parallels, posters and rolls). Each folding style is named, numbered and illustrated. I'm going to tell you a lot more about this must-have guide in the pages of DTG. But if you can't wait, visit the Finishing Experts web site for more detail.

Thank you berry, berry much
We've heard of blueberry computers, Frankenberry cereal, Dave Berry jokes... er, uh, Barry. Well now you can have a DeskBerry -- and just in time for the holidays too! The DeskBerry is a cute little mini-filing device designed to organize smaller desktop items such as disks, letters and memos, as well as deliver a single drop of inspiring color onto the home or office desktop. The unique design of the DeskBerry causes it to shine, giving it a glassy, candy-like appearance in choice of four colors: Crystal, Blue, Purple and Red which is my favorite! The small ($5.99 US) price tag makes it an ideal stocking stuffer and you could even have them imprinted with the company logo for holiday gifts! They're from Tiggon Corporation in Dallas Texas.

The smartest way from bitmap to vectors!
Silhouette plugin for Illustrator allows you to convert bitmap images to vector images with unique correction tools -- and it works on Macintosh and Windows! This plugin straightens a crooked scan, sharpens rounded or truncated corners; deletes unsed anchor points; simplifyies and smooths curves while keeping their appearance; and even converts flat curves into straight lines. Silhouette is compatible with Adobe Illustrator 8, 9 and 10. Silhouette could be the smartest way from bitmap to vectors!

Free Mac OS X Jaguar Training Manual
Gartner released a research paper on Mac OS X 10.2 aka Jaguar. Gartner says that although earlier versions of the the Macintosh operating system have been marketed to Macintosh users, Jaguar is the first Apple OS designed to entice Windows users. With its approximately 150 new features, Gartner calls Jaguar a compelling upgrade, especially for prfoessionals within multiplatform computing environments. Gartner is especially impressed with Jaguar's Windows networking tools which it describes as substantial. it-Enquirer has posted an excellent manual for OS X, written by Erik Vlietinck. It covers OS X 10.1, and OS X 10.2 Jaguar. Download http://it-enquirer.com/OSX101man.pdf

PC paranoia strikes deep
Paranoia Eradicator 1.0 is a simple, yet powerful multifunctional utility for Windows. It can be set up to eradicate (clean up) several predefined objects at startup, as well as user-defined folders. This is useful if you want to remove the traces of visited websites, clean up temporary directories, etc. Paranoia Eradicator also has the ability to activate the built-in restrictions of Internet Explorer, to speed up your cable modem, DSL or ordinary modem connections, set the maximum connections to HTTP servers, and manage programs and drivers executed at startup. You can even lock Paranoia Eradicator with a password so you can be the only one able to access these settings. PC: Windows all versions
