Women's History Month Marches into March

Every year we discover new history and new historic references surrounding Women's History Month. This time I dug into the heroines of the 2nd World War, particularly that image of the strong, iconic bicep-flexing Westinghouse poster image of "Rosie the Riveter"! You thought Norman Rockwell created her, but he didn't . . . and we've got lots more about that era in a very special video presentation to celebrate this year :: our 19th Annual Women's History Month edition! Please enjoy! March 1, 2014

60-Seconds 309 : Is the news really news?

What do you think about the news? As graphic designers we can be terribly influenced by the news -- or not. How do we digest the deluge of news into thought patterns that contribute to our design creativity in a positive way? Or do we just absorb it all? Does the news shape your life? Are you fed up with it? Do you think it's biased or fed to you through colored filters and glass? Should graphic design reflect the news? No? Yes? Today's article on Tom Ashbrook's "On Point" -- the NPR opinion radio show -- was thought provoking and enlightening. February 27, 2014

Event, Exhibit : Designing Modern Women, 1890–1990

Modern design of the 20th century was profoundly shaped and enhanced by the creativity of women -- as muses of modernity and shapers of new ways of living, and as designers, patrons, performers, and educators. This installation, drawn entirely from MoMA's collection, celebrates the diversity and vitality of individual artists' engagement in the modern world, from Loïe Fuller's pulsating turn-of-the-century performances to Paula Scher's deconstructivist graphics of the 1990s.
