If you've ever had the urge to fly to New York City and attend an auction of fine art photography, you missed a great chance.

The first fine art photography auction conducted entirely on the Internet was held from May 6th through 16th, 1998 at James Wintner's PhotoArts. The catalog of photographs was impressive and presented a broad range of images from well-known masters including famous photographs and photogravures such as Alfred Stieglitz's The Steerage and Ansel Adams' Mt. Williamson, California.
__ Auction prices ranged from $1,500 to $150,000, with the vast majority of photographs being offered at prices under $10,000.
__ The auction included works by Edward S. Curtis, Eugene Atget, Andr* Kert*sz, Man Ray, Liszl– Moholy-Nagy, Lewis Hine, Edward Weston, Weegee, W. Eugene Smith, Dr. Harold Edgerton, Bill Brandt, Aaron Siskind, Harry Callahan, Irving Penn, Gary Winogrand, Sally Mann, Herb Ritts, Berenice Abbott, Dorothea Lange and many more.

The auction is a newly formed venture under the supervision of two widely-known experts in the field of photography - Beth Gates Warren, Director of Sotheby's New York Photography Department from 1985 to 1995, and Dale Stulz, Director of Christie's New York Photography Department from 1979 to 1983.
__ Of course, if you happen to be in New York City, visit the Howard Schickler Fine Art Gallery, 560 Broadway 5th floor, telephone (212) 431 6363.
