Seasonal Photos
make you look good!

The holidays are a great time for family photos and provides you with a superb opportunity for marketing your small business at the same time.
__ I'm talking, of course, about photographic reminders you can give to your clients to keep your name and services in front of them in the weeks and months ahead. If you haven't yet taken the step into the digital photography world, but you'll be taking the plunge soon, take a look at Dr. D'Lynn Waldron's "Advantages and Disadvantages of Digital Still Cameras" column. Also take a look at the Editor's Choice digital camera book of the season, John Odam's "Start with a Digital Camera".
__ There's some interesting inkjet photo media reaching the market. Luminos offers an entire range of inkjet surfaces, including tapestry, canvas, Belgian linen and more. You can order a Luminos sampler pack for $9.49 (plus S&H) from E.P. Levine's. The sampler includes 16 sheets, 8.5"x11" in an assortment of popular surfaces, including glossy, matte, pearl and canvas.
__ If you're an experimenter, visit your local art supply store, pick up some watercolor paper, cut it to fit your printer and print away. Photographs printed on watercolor paper take on an artistic, impressionistic look. Frame them and give them to special clients.
__ With photo transfer paper made by Kodak, Hewlett Packard and Canon, you can use your color printer to transfer digital photos and graphics to a wide range of smooth cotton and cotton blend fabrics, including tee shirts and more.
__ Got a special scenic photograph to share in a novel way? Inexpensive gifts include photo puzzles, photo mousepads, photo keychains, photo magnets, photo snowglobes, photo mugs, and much more. Do a little searching on the web and you'll find dozens of companies offering an array of photo gifts. You can even make things from your photos like the personalized envelopes or custom scratch pads we demonstrate in the promotions department.

Here's some companies to get you started:

  • Kustom Keepsakes offers special prices for quantity orders.
  • Neil Enterprises manufactures and direct sales of many photo novelties. Minimum order $25; and many items subject to minimum quantities. Free Catalog.
  • Joslin Photo Puzzle Company takes your (sent in) photograph and transfers it to a wide range of puzzle sizes.

Let us know how you use photographs to promote your business and we'll share them with the Design Center audience.

Until next month,
