The 3.0.1 Update improves UI responsiveness, adds a histogram tool and additional GPU-based image effects and provides Full Screen and high-resolution drawing support.

einstein’s legacy Chief Product Officer Douglas A. Welton says

Quoting begins We have added a number of features that make Monochrome an effective tool for professionals and amateurs who need to process large batches of images and interactively explore the possibilities for image post-processing … With this we revamped the user interface making it more responsive and intuitive. We added support for Full Screen mode and high-resolutions graphics drawing. We introduced keyboard navigation from the preview mode. And, of course, we added a new collection of effects. Monochrome 3.0.1 includes the following key features:

Improved Conversion: Monochrome gives you the option to convert images using an RGB or HSL-based color mixer, simple or advanced selective color desaturation, monotone color re-mapping or Core Image presets. All rendering is done on the GPU for fast, effective processing.

Batch Processing: Monochrome exports converted images using a background task. This allows you to continue work on other activities without waiting for the image processing to finish. The Activity Monitor is now integrated with the User Notification Center so that users can, unobtrusively, be notified about the state of their exports.

Image Previews: Monochrome features six modes for viewing images: original image, the converted image, two overlay modes showing both the original and converted image in the same location, and two stacked modes showing the original and converted images side-by-side. The Toggle key lets you easily jump between image preview modes. Users can now navigate between images by using the arrow keys to move amongst the tray items. Monochrome now provides a histogram display so that users can check the chromatic characteristics of their source and output images.

Sharing: Monochrome can share converted images via e-mail, using popular internet services (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.) or with local applications like iPhoto or Aperture. Also, you can drag’n’drop or cut’n’paste the preview image to other applications.

Printing: Monochrome provides three templates for printing your images: one image per page, an image grid contact sheet, or image slices. Print operations can also be saved as PDF files.

Slide Shows: Monochrome dynamically creates a slide show from the converted images in your project. Slide shows display full screen and can be navigated manually or as a timed slide show. Slide shows can now be played on any display connected to your computer.

Image Effects: The rendering pipeline now includes more than thirty new effects, such as edge burning, X-rays, motion blurring and vintage photo processing. For efficiency, these effects are rendered on the GPU. This update includes new effects management tools that allows users to bypass, disable and enable active effects quickly.

Single Window User Interface: Monochrome operations have been consolidated into a single window, giving you an easy and effective tool for manipulating your images.

System Requirements – OS X 10.10 or higher – 64-bit processor – 3 MB disk space

Pricing and Availability: Monochrome 3.0.1 is available for $19.99 (USD) from the Mac App Store (in the Photography category).
