Here's a special edition of PHOTOSHOP MADNESS specifically for text, type, typography and fonts techniques. You'll find 1,100,000 tutorials on the web for text effects, all claiming to be the 'best' Photoshop text effects. In reality there are only a few hundred, because the vast array of several thousand replicator sites have picked up the same tutorials and lay claim to them but redirect you to another site. Some are really good, others really, really suck, like those loaded with screen spam, stalker links and pop-ups that take over your system and won't let you go!
These tutorials have been tested to be pretty good -- and you note we actually give credit to the original site, listing the site name. There are a lot more we'll be sending out over the weeks to come :
* Create a Shiny, Gold, Old World Text Effect in Photoshop
* Create a Steam Powered Typographic Treatment
* Place An Image In Text With Photoshop
* Great Gooey Photoshop Text Tutorial
* Delicious Bagels Text Effect
... and MORE
Place An Image In Text With Photoshop
This is one of the oldest techniques in the book, and goes back to Photoshop 1. There are four of these in the Photoshop Tips & Tricks site, dating back as far as 1993. But times change and the newer versions of Photoshop offer newer ways of doing things.
In this Text Effects tutorial, you'll learn how to place an image in text, a very popular effect to create in Photoshop, and one that also happens to be very easy to do thanks to the power of clipping masks, as we’re about to see!

Great Gooey Photoshop Text Tutorial
CAREFUL ... the Photoshop Lady is back and she ripped off this tutorial into HER site, when it actually belongs to "The Youth Designer" . . . who actually ripped it off someone else.
Create great looking, 3-Dimensional, gooey looking text . This technique does require minimal drawing skills but is definitely suitable for beginners. . . . Supposedly authored by a person named Cadence (whoever that is.)

Create a Steam Powered Typographic Treatment – Part I
Photoshop Lady also tried to rip this one off, but we knew better . . . this one is from tutsplus.com, written by Alex Beltechi. It's huge, multi pages, over 48 illustrations in part one alone! Alex writes :

In the first half, we’re going to customize a Blackletter font and create 3D text with vector shapes. There’s lots to do, so let’s start with the first part of this two-part series!

Create a Shiny, Gold, Old World Text Effect in Photoshop
Here's another gold effect. This tutorial gives good results but it's written and produced very poorly. Some of these authors just show the screens of styles and layer effects but never really teach anything.
In this quick tip tutorial we will show you how to create a shiny, gold, old world text effect using layer styles in Photoshop. Jan Stverak is survivor on Graphicriver
