March on: Designing Women

March is probably one of my favorite months simply because it usually marks the end of winter and begins to see the beginnings of spring. I know that summer isn't too far away! I also love preparing for March, because 18 years ago we decided to begin featuring women in the design, graphics, illustration, photography and other visual arts fields as an adjunct celebration to Women's History Month. So let me share just a few of the "official" links for March ... March 1, 2013

Create cool, splashy typography using Adobe Photoshop

For this month's Designing Women issue, Mirko from the DesignerDaily site sent this Photoshop tutorial written by Elizabeth Tran, a bright young designer from China! In this tutorial she shows you how to create cool water typography effect in Photoshop utilizing stock photos, blend modes, filters and special water splash brushes to give a splish-splash feel to this unique design typography treatment. LAWS of Authorship

One almost famous photographer I know put out a remarkable self-promotion piece -- a calendar so simple and stunning, everyone wanted one. It was a series of posters with spot varnishes printed in full color on 100 pound coated cover. He stamped a copyright mark on each and every image used to produce those promotional pieces -- but this story turns out a little different than you'd expect. February 25, 2013
