Pen & Ink: A Watercolor Notebook 2.3 has just gotten a major update — making this probably one of the best painting and drawing apps for your iPad. This cool app features an elegant and simple interface for creating and managing sketches, notes and drawings. In version 2.3, artists can now easily paint broad layers of colors and designs on top of one another, with the hues blending and showing through just like they would with real watercolor.
With Pen & Ink you can actually move your layers in front or behind each other, or delete them all together. For example, it’s simple to remove the sunlight from a shimmering ocean or to insert a layer of cloud cover over the sun. You can add images, pictures, documents and photos from your camera or library to any layer for easy tracing or multimedia design.
Pen & Ink’s color palette and 25 brushes provide every color, brush stroke and texture imaginable, and you can paint on any color paper.
Jennifer Emerson, a Board Member of the San Francisco Art Institute said
Pen & Ink” creates the closest paintings to real watercolor that I have seen on an iPad
Other App Store reviewers have written:
Pen & Ink is my fav art app. The zoom and multiple brush feature make it a winner, and having pigment control is the best! *** The brushes and erasers are so delicate that I can work with them intuitively. *** I can’t recommend Pen & Ink enough. It feels really close to having my watercolors out, without the issues of having a tiny baby around!
