IT'S ALWAYS A THRILL to take a field trip to discover new talent and some of the awesome design work appearing around the world. Here are awesome new typography works that take the art to a new level. This is the first in an upcoming series of field trips we'll be taking over the weeks to come. Sit back and enjoy...
Victorian typography
Jackson Cook produced this book for his Advanced Typography class at SUNY Purchase College.
The assignment was to simply create a book about typography, using appropriated text from other sources. The layout and example paragraphs was entirely up to the class to decide for themselves. He decided to draw inspiration from old wanted posters, and victorian typography for my book to create an old western feel to the book.

You Know Slabs
Yes, I know slabs ... and so does Sofie Platou! It's always nice to realize great talent is coming on board all the time.
You Know Slab is a heavy weight slab typeface designed for posters and editorial usage. The idea was to combine the modern "fat" font, with the old western slab serif in hope of creating something softer and more retro- looking. This was a two week school project at Westerdals, accomplished easily by Sofie Platou.

Nuzzles: handmade typography puzzles
This is about as terrific as terrific gets! It's the work of John Christenson, design, video arts, graphic design from Chicago. I've done wood working over the years and can truly appreciate the work that went into this. You have no idea how difficult it is to get that kind of superb finished product!
Nuzzles are custom designed handmade wooden name puzzles, each with its own unique typographic style. Every puzzle is crafted from a single block of wood, and the letterforms interlock with each other in a way that creates a sense of harmony and integrity.

Chris Piascik, a student of graphic design, illustration, typography up in Alex White's neck of the woods in Hartford, CT, is so talented, and has so many cool things going on in typography, I just didn't know what to show you.
So I think you'll want to go poke around his portfolio yourself!

iPhone Font
You knew it would come along sooner or later. Urikane Parker had the unique idea to make a font from iPhones. LOL. Sure, it's a bit unusual -- but he took 540 different app icons and made the font...
Urikane is from Barcelona, Spain creative fields illustration, and you'll find lots of other really unique art and fonts at his site.

thank you so much for more and more cool stuff on fonts! Keep it coming
Visit Internet sites that suggest overall college service reviews and you'll discover that it isn't so problematic to find reliable services at which to help you with your typography. We always love the Fonts Festival, and look forward to it every year. I think the 14th was my favorite, although this one ... the 16th is possibly better! Hey guys ... keep up the great work -- WE LOVE YOU GUYS!
