Best Finds & Holiday Ideas

... this month's winners share their ideas

During October and November we invited readers of the Design Cafe list and Design Cafe Forums to write in and share their most important or favorite discoveries during 2007. We'll be continuing the theme through until December 15th. We also asked for favorite or interesting holiday greeting card or promotional ideas -- but only had ONE. Here, take a look:

BEST: Vector your Raster images online

Bill writes:
"This is a GREAT web-based application that turns photos and other bitmapped images into vector images... cleans up rasterized logos... and it is easy to use... it's a cliche, but you really have to see it to believe it! try it out!"[END QUOTE]

BEST: Send huge files online safely

Judy writes:
"To send files to that are too large to go through e-mail to clients and associates, I use the free FTP digital delivery service at YouSendIt.com. You can upload files up to 100 MB in size, and a file can be downloaded as many as 100 times. They send a notice to the sender as well as to the recipient with instructions about downloading the file.
YouSendIt.com also has paid subscriptions available for increasing levels of service, but the free service has been a lifesaver for me when I had to get large files to another city in a hurry.
I work on a Mac Pro, and my favorite software is Photoshop. Thanks!" [END QUOTE]

BEST: Ultimate software for screencasts

Janette writes:
"Camtasia by TechSmith is awesome! It allows you to make sweet, rocking tutorials by recording your screen and audio. I've used these to make many video tutorials for my web design students and I love this produc!
      It's user-friendly, it's reliable, and it's reasonably priced.
While I'm at it, check out one of TechSmith's newest projects called Jing. It's similar to the above, but is a combo of webware/software. All movies/tutorials you make are stored on their server, and once you make the tutorial/video they give you an Url to send to others or post on your blog/website so you can share with others." Robert's "Holiday" card concept

Robert writes:
"Top of card: Santa sitting down with george bush on his lap.
President bush asking Santa for Bin Laden.
Bottom of card: Santa sitting down with Bin Laden on his lap.
Bin Laden asking for all americans.
Inside of card: Christmas uplifts the greatest hunger in humans.
Merry Christmas!"

WOW! Do you suppose Bin Laden even knows about Santa? Probably so.

And, that about wraps it up for this month. See'ya next month.
